    BIOGRAPHY AND RESEARCH INTEREST

    BIOGRAPHY

Lingxue Zeng is PhD candidate in Dr. Kim’s lab in the Department of Biomedical and Nutritional Sciences at UMass Lowell. She received a BE degree in Pharmaceutical Preparation from Wuhan Institute of Technology University (Wuhan, China) and MS degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences from Northeastern University (Boston, USA). During her BE and MS, she actively participated in a variety of drug design projects in both herb drugs and nanoparticle drugs. She worked in Prof. Mansoor M.Amiji’s lab during covid 2020 to developing drug delivery system for cancer cells based on temperature sensitive liposomes.

She is currently pursuing her PhD degree and is focusing on exploring drug pathology and developing therapeutics for iron related disorders including hemolytic anemia and acute kidney injury. She developed several animal models for transfusion iron overload and chemotherapy induced kidney injury. She works on the restoration of iron homeostasis in systematic iron overload and partially iron overload disease using novel injectable thermosensitive nanoparticle iron chelator that overcomes the toxicity and low patient compliance brought by traditional iron chelators. The success of her research will give insight into how to design novel therapeutics to improve drug efficacy, safety and patient compliance for secondary iron overload disease such as sickle cell anemia, as well as how to improve cancer patient’s quality of life by overcoming off target effect of anti-cancer drug.
