Her research focus included studying the effects of iron overload on psychiatric behavior. To study these effects, nutritional and genetic mouse models of iron overload were subjected to a battery of behavior tests. The neurochemical alterations that underlie these behaviors were also studied, particularly neurotransmitter dysfunctions and oxidative stress, to determine the mechanisms by which iron overload causes behavior deficits.
